Out Of My Comfort Zone

Dear Family & Friends,

I am very excited to share with you what God has laid on my heart. This coming January, I will be going to Africa, to work with a team who is reaching out to people who have never heard the Gospel. I will arrive in Africa at the end of January, 2016 for an 11 month stay.

Earlier this year when Karen and her husband, spoke about their work in Africa to bring the Gospel to unreached people groups, I felt God’s tug on my heart to go. I decided to talk to Karen immediately after the service, and was excited to think about the possibility of being a part of this work, but then I remembered my age. I mentioned my concern to her and she said they were excited to have someone older joining the team. It was then that my decision was made – I had to follow through with what I felt God pressing upon my heart to do.

While in Africa I will be learning what it looks like to work in a Muslim context and to be the hands and feet of Jesus to those I come in contact with, whether it’s university students and professionals studying English, little beggar boys who call the street their home, or people in villages – all who have never had a Gospel witness. Can you imagine how dark their lives must be? Saying yes to what God has placed on my heart is affecting more than just my life; I go in order that I can build relationships and share life with these people so that they may taste and see that the Lord is indeed good.

I must now sort through all of the logistics in order to get there. First, I must raise $1000/month in living expenses and $6000 for travel expenses. I know God will provide for my needs, because He doesn’t call someone without coming through for them.

Secondly, I need prayer, and lots of it! This journey is such a new adventure for me, and I am very inexperienced in working with people of another culture. I also need prayer for good health, and that God will use me to speak into the lives of the people He wants me to reach.

I thank you for your help in any of these areas.

If you would like to make a donation (either a one-time gift or monthly support) to my work in Africa, you can either send a check made out to Assemblies of God World Missions (AGWM) with my name “Joyce Coburn” and my account number “6001960“ in the memo line to the address below or go online to www.giving.ag.org, type in my account number in the search bar, and the instructions will follow:
